The birthday boy!

The first birthday Mike and I spent together was when we were dating.  It was already past his birthday so we celebrated his half birthday.  I can't even remember what we did besides make homemade pizza.  I made signs and decorated the apartment (as you can see, I spelled birthday wrong on his poster).

Ten and a half years later we are celebrating his 33rd birthday!  I am so happy to have spent so many birthdays with him.  His day started out in typical Mike fashion.  He got up super early and jumped in the shower and got ready.  At 6:22 AM he came to pray with me.  I had hoped to wake up early and make him breakfast but he had to teach an early morning class and didn't have time for breakfast so before bed I made him apple-cinnamon coffee cake so he could wrap some up and take it with him this morning. Then he went outside and shoveled the driveway.  The boys woke up and watched him through the window and then came in to tell me that he had slipped on ice and fell.  Now he is at work, doing what he loves to do.

I only mention his routine this morning, not because I believe it's really that interesting to anyone.  Only, it tells me something important about Mike:  He takes his jobs seriously.  Mike never misses his alarm clock--never pushes the snooze button.  He just immediately turns it off and gets to his business of getting ready.  He knows what and where he needs to be and he does it with no complaining and no questioning.  Also, he takes his job as father and husband very seriously.  Mike didn't know that school got canceled for the boys but he was out shoveling, not for himself, but for me so that when I came back home from taking the boys I would be able to easily get back up the driveway.  He just always consider what would make my life simpler and happier.

I love him for that.

We all can't wait for him to get home so we can celebrate his birthday.  The boys have plans to help me wrap his presents and make a big "we love you" card.  They want to have a laser tag game when he gets home and we will eat his favorite meal and have a pineapple upside down cake.
