Sucesses
This week has been a week of success for the boys in my home. A few weeks ago, the boys (Will and Isaac) tested for their yellow/white belts. Before their test their instructors gave them a list of chores to complete. They had a variety of things to do--clean their rooms, treat others with respect, brush their teeth morning and night, do their homework, etc. Then they were also given a paper that I needed to filled out each time I caught them doing something good that they hadn't been asked to do. They spent the entire month before the test practicing their moves and answering questions they would be asked for their test--questions like, "What is self-control?" Their biggest problem was forgetting to say, "Yes, Sir and Yes, Ma'am" so Mike made them say this to us after every time we had them do something. It was pretty funny.
They did a great job on their test and were able to answer all the questions and do all their moves.
Two weeks later they were presented their belts in front of their class and one of the older classes. They were so proud of themselves and we were proud of them as well.
The last part of the test was breaking a board, which they got to do last night. Will struggled with kicking his board but he was able to break it with a swift palm strike. Isaac's board was cut a little smaller and he had no problems kicking his.
The other success this week was Mike defending his thesis. He did awesome and passed. I'm very proud of him and his hard work. He graduates in a month and then he moves on to teaching. My husband is a genius.
And finally, I can't leave Mr. Eli out. He has stopped taking naps and I was worried that this new shift in his sleeping patterns would create even more defiant and angry behavior. But I was entirely wrong. His behavior has improved immensely! He is funny and happy and engaged. His defiance and strong personality isn't gone, obviously, but he is so much more manageable and I'm loving hanging out with him. He really is the silliest little boy and his personality is so much fun. So, that is a success. Plus, now that he no longer naps in the day, he falls asleep by 8:30, with is like an hour and a half earlier than he used to fall asleep.
So, it's been a week of successes and I'm super proud of my men!

And I am so happy that no naps was a good thing for little Eli!
How long have your boys been in Karate? (Is it Karate?) There's one little Karate studio here in town and I've wondered if Collin would have fun with it, but it's a 20 minute drive to get there and I'm lazy. But, your boys look like they love it! They made me proud, and they aren't even mine, when they broke their boards. Pretty cool.
I'm glad that Eli is doing great with no naps. It makes life so much better when your kids are happy! Everybody always says that if mom isn't happy, nobody is happy. But, I think it's the other way around--if kids are happy (or dad), then mom isn't happy. They certainly play a major rold in how happy I feel, at least!
How are you feeling? I hope that you are doing alright. Big hugs (I know how much you LOVE them) from me, my friend.
Megan, I used to live in Indiana and I don't remember it being as grey. But, I was young (11-14) so I might not remember really well. It's pretty humid there though, but you are used to that from Georgia. I think we are going to like Colorado. When would you end up there?
