Names for our baby

I think we have narrowed it down to two names for this little miss in my belly.

We like Lila and Piper.

My goal in naming my baby is not to please everyone because that's impossible.

Both of us have always liked the name Lila. Before we ever had a baby we liked this name and planned on naming a girl Lila. But now we have this other name floating around in our heads. We've liked this name for awhile too--we had it on our list of possible names if Eli was a girl.

I just never imagined having a girl named Piper. And it's funny because Piper seems to fit better in our family. When I hear Lila I imagine a sweet, calm little girl. When I hear Piper I imagine fire and spunk.

Honestly, I'd prefer a Mike baby girl over an Adrianne baby girl so on that basis alone, I'd choose Lila.

The little boys don't like Piper as much but I think Mike is leaning towards Piper. If she's got red hair then she's a Piper no contest.

As far as middle names, I don't have one and I've never cared much for girl middle names. They seem very general and obvious. Don't we all know someone with the middle name of Anne? Sue? Dawn? Lynn? It's going to have to mean something or I'm not using it at all. Besides, I like having my maiden name as my middle name so this little girl will probably not have a middle name either.

Oooh, I love them both. I won't vote but I really like both.

Caleb and Eli both would have been "Laila" if they were girls, so Lila is pretty to me, too. But I would TOTALLY go for Piper! (Not that my vote counts.) Piper is one of those names that I LOVED that Sean wouldn't even consider. So if I had a husband that liked it, no question I would do it.

I vote for Piper. It's unusual, it's very feminine and it's a name that has spirit. We have an older woman in our ward that I really like - her name is Lila. I will always associate "old" with that name. But whatever you decide, we'll love because she is your little girl.
(I like the name Paisley for a girl, too.)

I like Piper. But Lila goes better with your last name. I think it will depend on what color her hair is when she comes out :)
It's funny you feel that way about girl middle names. I didn't have a middle name growing up and I hated it. I don't mind having my maiden name as a middle name now....but I decided our girls WOULD have middle names. All our kids middle names are after family members- that way they do mean something. Emma is Emma Kathryn after my Grandmother....I love that we can tell her about that.

Both your names are beautiful! I can see both fitting in with your family.

I like having a middle name for children that mean something. All of my boys have middle names that are named after someone. Except for Caleb who's first name is from his father and then he goes by his middle name. Alyssa's middle name is Christine and she is named after my best friend since childhood who was my maid of honor at our wedding.

I like both of the names you have picked out. I haven't heard of either and they both sound nice.

It is fun and hard to find a name that both parents like--at least at our house! There is a family in our ward with a little girl named Piper. It is a cute neame! I think that both names are very pretty =).

Yeah, but if she's got read hair and you name her Piper, be prepared for the teasing to start. She will get teased in school. Simply because kids can be mean. She'll be called the Pied Piper. :( I personally like the name, but I'd think about what happens as she gets older.

Lila does envoke feelings of calmness and sweetness. I like Lila better.
Chelsey, I honestly don't think most kids that will be her name will even know what the pied piper is so I'm not worried about it.

We almost named Londyn...Piper. I love that name because the nurse that works for our pediatrician is a Piper and she is the nicest, sweetest, and prettiest nurse ever.

I really like them both! My mom's cousin named her little girl Piper. I'd never heard of it as a name before but i love it! I also think Lila is sweet and feminine. Good luck deciding! -Jen

They'll both be great, Adrianne! I'm excited for you to have a little girl. And red hair would be so cute. When Gracie was inside my belly I always pictured her with red hair, but she's got brown hair (and not much of it!).
If you did want to go with a middle name, you could always use either your mom's name or Mike's mom's name...just an idea.
Good luck deciding which name to use!

Very cute names! The whole middle name thing was kind of a struggle for me. I have one, but when I got married, the DMV made me use the middle name as my middle and I had to drop my maiden name completely- something I was very unhappy about. So, when we named Gwen, she didn't get a middle name. I was still torn when she was born, but when I was filling out her birth certificate info, I just left it off because I simply couldn't decide.

I love to weigh in on other people's names. I vote Lila. Not a fan of Piper. But this is coming from someone who feels that traditional names are best... hence our kid, David. :) Also, love middle names for girls. When/If we have a girl the name we have chosen is Adele Sylvia Wilson. Yeah, we pick these things way in advance. Our next son... Grant Steven Wilson.

What about Rianne for a middle name - named after you?

I'm partial to Lila--but really, any baby grows into the name he/she receives and it always seems perfect in the end.

I loved that you shared your feelings on a middle name. We didn't give Olivia a middle name because Nate wanted her to keep Hawkins when she gets married. I've always had mixed feelings about it, but I'm happy to hear that you liked keeping your maiden name.

I loved having a middle name growing up, and when I got married, I decided not to give up any of my names. All four of them are on my social security card, although I use my maiden initial instead of my middle initial. My husband actually has four names too, so maybe that's why I don't mind having and using so many.
My middle name was after my great-grandmother, and I think middle names for boys or girls should mean something.

You could always use the name Cub for a middle. I love the name Piper. That is my vote, even if I do not count.

It's so exciting and daunting to pick names.

My philosophy with names is the more the merrier. If someone wants to drop a name later (maybe to use a mother's maiden name as a middle name or to adopt "Rockstar" as a middle name), it's not hard to do at all (especially at the time of marriage, when a name change is routine and free).
