The nurse said, "He looks like he's gotten in a boxing fight."
This sweet boy was trying out his gymnastic skills on the couch and rolled off and hit the coffee table. It was pretty traumatic. I knew immediately that he had to get stitches. I called Mike, who had just left to meet the missionaries at the church for a baptism interview they were doing, and told him to come home. Isaac was very scared and said, "I don't want them to stitch my brain!" He cried the entire drive to the hospital and said, "I don't want to bleed to death." Poor, poor baby. He was really brave and so sweet and funny at the hospital. He just held my hands and only cried for a small minute when they were numbing him with the needle. Afterwards he told the doctor and his assistants that his brain was freezing. He was very happy with his Popsicle and happy to be going home. He got ten stitches on the inside and ten on the outside.
The trip home was an experience that proved me to be perhaps too trusting but turned out fine in the end. Isaac was about to wet his pants and was crying because he had to go so bad. I couldn't think of a better solution so I pulled into this dark parking lot with only a small amount of light. I just had him pee right there in the parking lot and then we got back in and not even a block away I was thinking to myself, "Man, the Children's Hospital is in the ghetto. It would be really bad if I got lost." Just then, and I mean, I hadn't even finished my thought, this guy steps out in front of my car and waves me down. I didn't know what to do. (Did I mention that it was 10:30 in the Ghetto of Dayton when the creepiest of the creepies come out?) I rolled my window down and he asked if I had jumper cables. I am certain he saw my hesitation and fear in my eyes. He didn't look super scary but he had a wife beater on and tattoos all over and he had a sidekick next to him. I really was just praying that I would know if I should just step on the gas and get the heck out of there. I didn't turn off the car and I didn't get out of car but handed him the cables. The I picked up the phone and called Mike so the guys could see that if they tried something Mike would know and I could call 911. Plus, we were just feet away from a busy main road and I figured if something happened, someone would witness it. The guy jumped his car and thanked me over and over telling me that about ten other people had just passed by (is it any wonder?).
I'm happy to say we got home safely, Isaac is doing well, and our coffee table will be finding another home.

We don't have a coffee table- for just that reason. I'm sure if we did by now Andrew would have had his brain stitched more than once.
And I'm glad you didn't get mugged. Maybe they saw Issac's beat up bruiser face and thought twice about giving you trouble. That's one mean lookin kid you've got there!
I'm so glad that he was brave and made it through the experience without trouble. I'm also very thankful that someone was watching over you as you helped someone else.
Oh, and next time, gas it. Don't ever stop for questionable looking people in downtown Dayton after dark. :)
Dayton is full of con artists who want you to give them money... glad your experience was good there, too.
