Thirty goals for my thirtieth year

Today was the big day--the day where I no longer get to claim youth. I have felt a mixture of feelings. On the one hand, I've never felt old before. As the day has gotten closer I've told myself, "But you don't FEEL 30." But just in the last few months, I have realized that I DO feel 30. Folks, I have three kids, and a dog. I've owned a house before. I have grey hair and wrinkles. I feel 30. I could feel depressed about this but I also feel, I don't know, excited I guess. This has been a good year for me and it's gotten me excited for the coming year also and all the things that could be in store for me and my life. I foresee some rough spots in the coming year but I really just want to embrace my life and my age. I laugh in the face of old age!

I've decided on thirty goals for my thirtieth year. Some of them are harder than others but I tried to be realistic because I don't want to set myself up for failure. I will try and post them as I complete them but some of them are personal and those I'll keep to myself. To give you an idea of some of my goals, I've got to do 30 sit ups and 30 push ups every day except Sunday and I haven't done them yet, so I've got to get to it.

But really fast, I just want to say that my boys (including Mike) are seriously fantastic. The boys have made my birthday really wonderful and I just love them. Will told me today that even if I feel old, I'm not because I don't look old and I've never looked old; I just look beautiful to him. They were insistent that Mike take them to the store to get me presents and were disappointed when I didn't make myself a cake--perhaps I'll make pie or cheesecake tomorrow. The gifts they got me were silly but I love them. I especially love the new comforter and sheets Mike bought me.

Also, I am grateful for all the birthday wishes from friends and family. I am especially thankful for my amazing friend that invited us over for a play date and then surprised me with a delicious lunch of homemade rolls to go with her chicken salad followed by cake and a candle to blow out. Thank you Monica, it was perfect!

Happy Birthday! Jeff turned thirty this year, and I was like man, we're getting old! When did this happen!? Life is good though. I'm glad you had a great day. I love that photo of you and your boys.

I like the crown a bunch! Cute! I am glad you had a good day and that you are embracing 30. My dad always says aging happens, just deal with it and love it.

Happy Birthday! I must agree with your husband and say you do look beautiful!

Age is really all about perspective, 30 may seem old to you, but try being 47! HA

Glad you had a great Birthday!

Dang it! It's on my calendar and I was going to write you an email yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of the best friends I've ever had! I love you and your fun and supportive and spiritual personality, Adrianne! I want to introduce you to my Hans next time you come to UT. I'm glad you had a good birthday.

I'm glad you had such a good day! I was pretty bummed about turning 30,but it turned out to be such a wonderful day and 30 has been pretty great so far (well, except for this whole morning sickness thing!). 30 goals sounds like a great idea!

Happy Birthday is in order for sure! Happy 30!

I think 30 is a great age because in your 20's you are still just a kid really, by 30 you know so much and have grown so much.

Jason turns 40 this year and that's weird to me for some reason.

I would love to hear about your goals, so if you dont' want to share them on the web, feel free to e-mail me.
Lisa, you still have a few years before you are 30 don't you? Enjoy it while it lasts....

Tana, thanks. My friend gave it to me because the boys always make me play Queens and Ninjas and they kept asking me if I was going to have a princess party for my birthday.

Saimi, thank you for the birthday wishes. You are right about age being about perspective.

Marcy, thank you! What a sweet message. I am excited to meet Hans! I am so happy you have found someone to love and to love you back.

Jen, man, I wish you wouldn't have been sick this time, as I'm sure you do also. At least it won't be your whole thirtieth year, right?

Jessie, thank you.

Debbie, I hope when I turn 40 that I can have a family like yours and be happy and still feel young. Lea looked beautiful in her prom dress!

Michelle, I will send you an emai with all my goals and some of them I'll post on here as I accomplish them.

I refuse to set a goal for each year... I don't have that much time. But you made me see one obvious goal; I might tell you about it later!

Glad your boys take such good care of you!
Happy LATE birthday!
Just means you can celebrate longer, right!
