The first question answered

as a fellow writer I have to ask, how are things coming along with your children's book? Or can you not say yet? :)

Right now we are just waiting. The agent wanted more flesh so we gave her more flesh but now she says it is "fleshed out." Truthfully, I liked the revisions of this past edit but it went from 300 words to about 1000 words (as she suggested) and it ended up changing the story quite a bit. It became an older children's book, probably appropriate for a 4 or 5 year old. I did not get a lot of good feedback this time around from my family. It really seemed like they didn't have very much good to say but had a lot of suggestions on how to fix it--which I'm not upset about because I sent them the story and therefore, allowed for honest feedback. I wanted that feedback because I feel it is important to know that it is actually something someone would read and if not, I want to know that before I make a fool of myself. But, it wasn't well received and I have to admit, it just got to be a little overwhelming with the pressure to write something good. The agent liked it but wants some more changes and is very busy right now so has asked for a few weeks before she can give me feedback. It's been nice to have a break from it and not think about it. I'm nervous about what she has to say about it but Mike is excited about it. I'm not sure if I will share it with anyone anymore because I need less feedback clogging my brain so I can think more clearly and really write something that is my voice, if that makes sense.

Editing is always pretty tough, but always worth it. I hope that the two weeks away will help you get back to it with a fresh start! And I also agree that limiting the feedback helps. I've noticed that if I have lots of people my reading my stuff and giving their advice I get too lost in trying to make other people happy. Always remember that it's your story and you need to satisfy your inner reader first. Thanks for the update, and best of luck!
