I was accepted to AFIT last January for the Electrical Eng, Aeronautical Eng, and Material Science. In June I sent an application to the assignment folks who choose who of the people that were accepted by the school get to go. 113 people applied for MS programs. 35 were selected. I was not selected. This means that I will not be sponsored by the Air Force to go to any graduate school this coming year; in other words, if I want to get a master's during the coming year I do it after work on my own time. I can apply again next year--though I retain my acceptance from the school--I only have to apply to the assignment people.
I assume that the board placed greater emphasis on something other than academics because that's what I geared my application towards and I am confident I am stronger academically than the 66% who did not get selected. My record that they were able to review is pretty weak in areas of leadership and experience (I only had 1 professional military education and 1 year's worth of evaluation in my record when they reveiwed it). I don't know what the board was looking for, though. They don't ever say.
Frances, I might make a post later on my feelings about not going to Ohio but for now I will say that I am so sad not to have you as neighbors! I have been looking forward to it since we met in Alabama for the dining out. I was already sad that we would only be there for six months while you were there but now we won't ever be neighbors. It was so comforting knowing that the next move we made we would already have friends. No luck.
