Peanut Island

We like having a family vacation in the Spring.  This year my sisters were coming for Spring Break but I wanted to do something with us our family too.  We had discussed Sanabel Island on the other side of Florida, Tampa, Savannah, or even some place in Alabama.  We almost booked a place in Savannah but then last minute decided that there was a lot to do here in Florida and we should take advantage of our time here to discover some of Florida.  Mike had to go out of town for a week and we had some other things going on that month so we decided to split our break up into a few days.  We did some things around town that we don't normally do like eat out, go to the movies, etc.  We also took a day to go to Disney.  We also knew we wanted to head down to Peanut Island (PI).  PI is a man-made island two hours south of us.  You have to carry all your water and food onto the Island with you.  They have bathrooms and showers on the Island and some picnic benches.  You have to park on the mainland and catch a ferry over to the Island.  We had read that high-tide is the best time to go if you want to snorkel but high-tide was at weird times so we decided just to go whenever and hope for the best.  We got there around noon so we decided to eat our lunch at the park near the ferry first so we didn't have to take food except our water and snacks.  The kids loved the ferry.  The island wasn't crowded (we went the last week in Feb during school) so we had plenty of room.  We did get to see some cool things snorkeling but the water was murky and got more murky as the tide went out.  The water was so warm and I especially loved how there were no waves so I didn't worry about the kids once.  We ended up going back in April when my sister was here and came right at the peak of high-tide.  The water was much clearer and we saw quite a few more things.
