Colorado Springs Fire
A lot of people have asked if we are safe from the fire so I thought I'd just post a quick update. The fire started Saturday around 12 and has just grown so quickly since then. So far about 300 houses have been burned. The Air Force Academy was evacuated a few days ago but so far nothing has been damaged as far as I know. The Air Force Academy is about 25 minutes North of us to give you an idea of where that part of the fire is. I googled how far the fire is currently and it looks like it's 8 miles away but evacuations have been extended closer to us. Honestly, if you look at the picture provided by the link you can see that the fire is up to Constitution Blvd. Last I heard evacuations extended to I-25. We are on the East side of I-25 so we are not within the evacuation or pre-evacuation area.
Today the air is so much better than it's been but it's been pretty horrible. Yesterday I sat outside on my porch with my sister-in-law and within minutes the sky was blanketed with thick smoke. We went inside and had to brush off a thin layer of ash off of my shirt. Our throats feel scratchy and burn and our eyes itch and burn and our heads hurt from all the smoke.
It's just a sad, sad situation and my heart goes out to all the families evacuated and that have lost their homes. We have offered to take some evacuees after the family leaves. Anyway, please continue to pray for the families, the firefighters, and for rain!

I saw all the photos on the Denver Post's page yesterday and it looked like a mess. -Jess
