Okinawa
We flew to Okinawa for Spring Break this year. It was our last vacation together as a family before Will leaves for his mission. I went into it with little to no expectations and came home so pleased. It was such a good vacation for our family. We were able to book a cabin on the beach at Okuma military resort. Think of resort loosely in this case. It isn't probably what you are imagining when you hear resort but it was exactly what our family needed and wanted. The cabin was just a few steps from the water and we almost felt like it was our very own private beach. It was supposed to rain every day but we were lucky and saw plenty of sun. There was one evening and night where it rained so much that we were all woken up by alerts going off on all of our phones saying that there was an evacuation order for those in landslide areas. We assumed that since we were on the beach and on a military resort, if we were in danger someone would come and tell us so we all went back to sleep. The next morning our hike was canceled because the rivers were so high and the beach ended up having seaweed washed up on the shore with choppy waves but other than that, everything was fine.
The resort was located in the middle of nowhere. Our flight got to Okinawa around 8 PM and then we had to drive almost two hours North to the resort. The next morning we went searching for a grocery store but could find nothing so we left the kids at the cabin and Mike and I drove an hour South to the military base commissary. The cabin had a grill, firepit, microwave, and fridge/freezer but no oven or stove. The resort also had a small restaurant that we ate at twice during the week and a small shoppette where we bought slushies.
It was my most favorite thing to pour myself some cereal in the morning and take my bowl out to the porch and listen to the waves.
I am so glad we splurged to take this trip
