Brothers and sister

The boys are back in school and it's quiet again.  It's quiet but not without adventure.  I find myself the last two days running around cleaning up messes from Piper all day long.  I forgot what it is like to have a baby in the house that gets into everything.  She has discovered the toilet and the toilet paper.  She climbs on the door of the dishwasher and up on the table whenever I'm not looking.  Yesterday as I washed the dishes she pulled every dish out as soon as I loaded them.  When I went to change the laundry, thinking she was quietly eating her snack in the kitchen, I turned to find her in the bathroom with the container to the trail mix.  She had dumped the entire container on the floor and then ate all the chocolate M&M's making a mess of her pretty white shirt and leaving a chocolate trail all over.  As I tried to sweep up the mess she would sneak nuts and yogurt covered raisins from the swept up pile.

I remember writing posts about the boys and their shenanigans too.  It's just been a long time since those days and I have to remember to be on alert to keep up with her.

She does cute things too like pretend to talk on the phone and clap her hands when she does something she's proud of.  I especially love when she will be playing and then drop what she is doing to come lay her head on me for a brief second before she goes back to her playing.  It's like her little way of saying, "I love you."  And she makes kissing noises when you kiss her.  She still doesn't know how to give kisses but she can make the sound.

Yesterday the boys were talking about Laila and how she was scared of them and laughing about the scared faces she used to get when they came near.  I like that they remember her and that they had a chance to love her for a few months.  When I was considering getting pregnant with Piper I was assured through a blessing that Piper would provide a sense of unity for our family and that having her would be good for the boys so they could have someone to love and care for.  That has proven to be true.  They are happy to have another sister to love and spoil.  How lucky is she for being the recipient of so much love?

The boys are definitely gentle and loving with that little girl. I was struck, when they were here, with the thought that those boys needed her to love and that they seem to treasure her in an extra special way. I think they treasure the time they have with her since Laila was with them for so short a time. That was what I picked up from watching them with her.
