Because I'm a bad mom...

This is a story about a bad mom. A certain mom put her baby on the dresser to play with her other son (who climbs up on the dresser every day). This mom was in the room but getting dressed and turned her back for an instant when the baby fell off the dresser. He cried for hours and the mom, while not crying for hours, also cried. The mom asked her husband to give the baby a blessing. The next day the baby grimaced every time anyone picked him up and so the mom realized something more was wrong and took him to the doctor. She was sent home and told he was probably just bruised and to bring him back the next day (his doctor wasn't in the office so he saw someone else). His real doctor ordered an x-ray and said the baby had a broken collar bone.

Of course that mom is me...and the sad baby is Isaac. And, I am very sad about hurting my little baby.

You didn't hurt him. He fell and got hurt, you didn't push him off the dresser...(although maybe Will did!?!) You are not a bad mom. Each one of us has done something like that, if not worse. You are just an unlucky mom with a poor little unlucky boy!

Ouch! Poor kid! Maybe I won't put Leah on the counter anymore as I cook breakfast. Thanks for the tough lesson.

Did this happen on your birthday?

Jess
Yes, it was on my birthday. Mike and I were talking about it and realized he is the only one in our family that has broken a bone.

That is very sad! Poor guy! Just to make you feel better... Mikayla was caught trying to drink anti-freeze, she has flipped off backwards from a standing position off her change table... Braden has sliced his fingers with a razor... Tyson always has bumps and bruises on his poor little forehead. It's just part of growing for a kid and part of being a mom! I think you will both survive it!!

Poor boy. Don't worry, Adrianne - that's how I felt everytime Henry has fallen off our bed (you'd think we would learn, right?).
Hope he feels better soon!

Hi Adrianne,

i hope you and Isaac are feeling better. it probably doesn't help right in the moment to know that (almost) everyone else has had similar experiences with their own kids, but...

Tom and I used to joke that it was a good thing we were in cairo for 2 years where there is no DCF. Avery was in the ER twice--once with dislocated/nursemaid's elbow (tom's fault) and once after drinking a bottle of tylenol (my fault).

when we got back to the states, avery was playing with a friend on our small apt balcony and fell 4 feet onto the concrete, headfirst. we went to the ER after she was falling asleep abnormally and while in the waiting room she threw up (good trick for getting seen faster!!). she had a CT scan but everything was fine.

put those three things together, and we're just plain lucky! God takes care of children and fools...and parents!
Thanks everyone! It's both comforting and sad to know that everyone has had similar experiences. It's funny because when I think about it, a lot of my posts have been about accidents or possible accidents (Will's cut with the razor, the microwave, toaster, Isaac's puffy lip, and now the broken collar bone). So sad.
