A day in the life of a mom with two kids

Well, the day officially started out bright and early at 6:45. Will was already awake although, thankfully he was just playing in bed talking to his "duckies." I quietly snuck past his room so he wouldn't hear me awake and read my scriptures in the extra room. Just as I finished, Isaac woke up so I went and got both my boys. Will sat on the couch with me as I fed Isaac and then I went to get Will food. While Will ate, Isaac sat in his bouncy chair and I hurried and ate my food and unloaded/loaded the dishwasher. Will ate his Cheerios and then dumped the rest on the table, himself, and the floor. I got him down and he went off to play while I swept the floor, but then he came to see what I was doing and decided it would be great fun to help so he got the dust pan and made a mess of the piles of junk on the floor. Then, seeing he didn't make a big enough mess, he drug his blanket across the mess. I finished the sweeping and threw in a load of laundry just in time for Isaac to decide he was finished with the bouncy seat and needed to be held. I got Isaac to sleep and then folded the clothes while Will jumped on all the neatly folded piles. We played a little and then Isaac started crying after sleeping only about 40 minutes. Knowing that it is payday tomorrow, I thought today was the day to go grocery shopping or it would be a madhouse tomorrow. So, I got the kids dressed and out the door we went. Will of course, immediately took off his shoes and socks while Isaac cried all the way to the commissary. Will loves to help me push the cart so I thought, "he is going to want to get out in a minute so I won't strap him in." Bad idea. As I'm pushing the cart, this man says to me, "Is that yours?" I turn around to see that Will was laying on the floor. The man says, "you almost ran over his feet." Great, so now everyone at the commissary knows what a rotten mom I am to allow my boy to jump out the cart and then I almost run him over. I strapped him in and ignore his screaming because he now had to be strapped in. You may wonder how I could possibly miss the fact that my son has just jumped out the cart. But, if I tell you that I was focused on trying to get Isaac to suck on his dumb pacifier so he will stop crying and that I was in a sick stupor (I have a major sinus infection), it might help you understand. We got to the next aisle where I saw diapers and remembered that Isaac has on his last diaper. I grabbed a package only to make another one fall on the ground--but a nice old man picked it up for me. As fast as we could, we jetted out of the grocery store but of course, Will had taken his shoes and socks off once again, and I had to put them back on him. By this time, both Will and Isaac were screaming their brains off, so I turned the radio louder to drown out the noise. I pulled into the driveway and I got the boys out (and yes, Will had taken the shoes and socks off again) and I tried taking the groceries inside while carrying Isaac and trying to keep Will from crossing the street in his attempts to get the squirrels. I got them both inside and got Will lunch...jello and chicken nuggets (not the healthiest lunch but quick, none the less). Isaac was still crying at the top of his lungs when the phone rang and it was my sister calling. I was holding Isaac and making a lunch and talking to Chelsey when I realized the ham I was just about to put on my already made sandwich is bad and growing things on it (I know, we should eat it or throw it away before that happens). So I dug up some pepperoni and went to get some pickles when the pickle jar shattered on the floor all around my shoeless feet. Just then the doorbell rang. I put Isaac in his bouncy seat, set the phone down, grabbed the mop, and then grabbed the door. Hearing my boys screaming, the man at the door, probably feeling bad for me, left a pamphlet and then left quickly. My sister chuckling, said she'd call back. So, I mopped the floor and then got Will down and took him to his bed for naptime. I fed Isaac and got him to sleep then ran to the kitchen to mop the rest of the floor. Finally, peace and quiet. As mentioned before, I am sick so I thought it was a perfect time to go take a nap. I was asleep for 20 minutes when Isaac was awake crying which of course, wakes Will up. So I got Isaac and made Will stay in bed and finally got Isaac back to sleep--or so I thought. Then I went and got Will up and we laid down on the couch. Mike walked in the doorway a few minutes later to see Will laying on me with a sleepy, glassy-eyed look and me with an "I want to die" look, and Isaac in his bed screaming. Mike said, "It smells like pickles in here." Yes, it does. Then he said, "Have you taken a shower yet today?" Ah, if only there were time to shower....

I am laughing out loud, but feeling so sad for you! I have had those days. They get better when the kids get older, but then you have another one and it starts all over again!
Katie, glad to know it was a good post...at the time I didn't think it was very funny but now I do. Unfortunately, this post isn't too far from a normal day around here. Ugh. Oh well, I love my boys anyway.

Jessie, I know you know what I'm talking about and I can't imagine what it would be like to have three!!!

Man, have I been there! I remember trying to do the simple task of grocery shopping with 5 kids in tow -- poopy diapers before we would get out, soap packages being chewed on, hot dogs half eaten, bread smashed, and in general, a mess! I hated it. I've had days just like yours and, like you, couldn't laugh at them then, but I sure did laugh over yours!! I'm happy to pass the baton. Mom

I am slow in getting to this post, but I am sure glad I read what you wrote. The only thing is I had to look closely to be sure it was not Chris that was writing. It was as they say, de javou all over again.

What can I say more. Even you were worth the trouble, Adrianne. And now with Will and Issac I know it will go on forever. The only difference between my generation and yours is that I was home and made more of a mess for Chris than Mike does for you. Nebraska was always a circus for us. And we were in a mouse laden old trailer. I can not believe we made it through those days!
